A Prayer about Seeking God

Do you seek the One who seeks you?

If you seek him, he will be found by you. 1 Chronicles 28:9

Precious Father,

We seek you in the morning; 

we long to learn to walk 

in your steadfast steps, 

your loving ways.

But we confess, 

we are wayward sheep, 

often stumbling into ditches 

as we wander off seeking we know not what—

clicking on this and scrolling through that 

in search of…what? 

Some taste that will satisfy? 

But you are Our Shepherd, 

and you seek us out and find us—

your little lost sheep…(Matt. 15:24; Luke 15:3-7)

From the very first day of disaster 

when Adam and Eve took their eyes off you, 

looking instead at the only fruit 

you forbade them to eat, 

seeking to become like you, 

then hiding, hiding 

in their fear and shame—

You came seeking them out, 

calling, “Where are you?” 

Even when you knew 

exactly where they were (See Gen. 3:1-9). 

What hope we have 

because you are a seeking God! 

And because you have not only sought us, 

but found us 

in Christ, 

what hope we have! 

Help us to seek you 

moment by moment, 

day by day, 

until that day 

when we see you face to face!
