How do you feel about being called to obedience?
For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience, the many will be made righteous. Romans 5:19
Holy Father,
We confess,
we love to talk about your grace;
we don’t always like to think about or talk about
the obedience you call us to as your children.
Indeed, your very own sinless Son
“became obedient even to the point of death,
even death on a cross” (Phil. 2:8).
And it was that death
that changed everything about our disobedience
as the sons and daughters
following in Adam’s sinful footsteps (See Romans 5:19).
Through our Savior’s obedience,
we are not only declared righteous,
but we are being made more like your Son.
Help us, Father,
to live changed lives,
truly grateful lives,
lives that show we are compelled by the love of Christ
to no longer live for ourselves (See 2 Corinthians 5:14-15).
Help us, Father, to be willing to follow our Savior
in learning obedience through suffering (see Hebrews 5:8).
May our obedience,
our willingness to go where you call us to go
and live as you call us to live,
be a bright light
that shines in the darkness
of a sin-sick world
and draws others to you.
In Jesus’ obedient name we pray. Amen.
